Explore with Äimä
Explore with Äimä – a children’s own tour into the world of craft!
In the permanent exhibitions of the Craft Museum of Finland, children are invited on an adventure together with the cheerful pig Äimä! Explore with Äimä is a discovery trail designed especially for children, where the exhibition is viewed with curious eyes and explored together with an adult.
In each section of the Craftstories – Tales of Finnish Skill and A Timeless Tradition – Finnish National Costume exhibitions, you will find an Äimä icon on the touchscreen. Behind it are six insightful and fun questions that encourage discussion, wonder and observation together – just as a museum visit should be: shared time and shared discoveries!
You might find yourself wondering, for example:
- How many animal figures can you spot in the space?
- Which costume do you think is the most beautiful – and why?
- What material is this object made from?
A tip for sharp-eyed explorers!
In the sustainability section, you are asked whether you can find a birdhouse… but perhaps it is hidden in a rather unexpected place?
Would you like to explore more?
You can pick up an activity sheet from the information desk, with a few extra tasks to do alongside Äimä’s questions. Once you have completed the trail, you will receive an Äimä-pig or Päkä-sheep badge as a reward!
The tour ends in the Sensory Space, where Äimä’s questions invite you to touch, try and use all your senses – craft experienced through fingertips and through the heart.
The Explore with Äimä trail is suitable for both younger and slightly older explorers, and above all it offers enjoyable shared activity with an adult. Come and explore, ask questions and discover the stories of craft in a completely new way!
