The Craft Museum of Finland

The Museum is part of City of Jyväskylä organization. So the maintenance comes from the City of Jyväskylä but also from the Ministry of Education and Culture because of museum’s national status.

Museum employs 17 permanent employees and few part time employees and trainees during the year.

The Craft Museum of Finland is a specialized museum for handicraft covering entire Finland. The museum covers all techniques of handicraft, from house building to lace making and from forging to the design of ornaments. The National Costume Center of Finland and The Conservation Center are part of the museum.

Mission

One of the main task is to make handicraft well known. Museum co-operates with artisans and craftsmen, general public, schools, any educational institutions from elementary school to university. The aim is to get people to see handicraft as a part of our life.

We store, research, interpret and disseminate information, knowledge and experiences to craft culture in past, present and future. The museum serves the entire field of handicrafts, professionals, amateurs and artists. Our collections, library and archives form a well-managed entity that is easily accessible to museum visitors.

Vision

The Craft Museum of Finland is prominent in preserving the Finnish culture of craftsmanship. We enlighten, promote networking and present different concepts of craftmanship. The museum is known as a national craft industry developer and trendmaker smoker. The museum's field of activity is both national and international. The museum is open and active in interaction with customers, other museums and the surrounding society.
