Body

The purpose of the archives maintained by the Craft Museum of Finland is to record the Finnish craft culture, craft tradition and related knowledge and skills. The collections are managed and maintained for research use and are available to all customers. The scope of the archive collections of the Craft Museum of Finland is about 150 shelf meters. The collections of the document archive are divided into two separate entities, both the museum's own and external collections.

The collection outside the archive consists of donations made by educational institutions and associations in the arts and crafts industry, small craft industry operators and private individuals. In addition to documents in paper form, the archive's collections include model drawings and sketches by entrepreneurs, designers and hobbyists in the field. The largest single collection that came as a donation is the collection of the Fredrika Wetterhoff foundation, which covers 52.4 shelf meters.

In addition to the external collection that came as donations, the archive also includes documents created through the museum's own activities. The Craft Museum of Finland, as an archive creator, thus also records and documents its own activities, in a way forming its own history for future generations.

The archive's collections are not loaned outside the museum, but they are freely available to researchers in the museum's premises. It is advisable to agree on a researcher's visit in advance with the person in charge of the archive.
