The On Senses exhibition offers a multisensory and touch-based dive into art, craftsmanship, and various materials. The exhibition highlights how artistic expression is built through tangible interaction with materials – through touch that shapes both the artwork and its creator.

The exhibition has been realized by the Craft Museum of Finland in collaboration with Artists O association, a professional and national artist organization founded in 2006 that promotes material-based and contemporary art within the applied arts sector.

Seventeen artists featured in the exhibition represent a wide range of material-based contemporary art, including works in textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, and various recycled materials. The exhibition merges techniques and materials familiar from the world of craftsmanship with artistic vision, bringing different surfaces and textures to life through the touch of a hand.

The On Senses exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to perceive diverse surfaces and textures through touch – their softness, hardness, roughness, or smoothness. By feeling the artwork, one can discern its shape, size, and intricate details.

The exhibition, organized jointly by the Craft Museum of Finland and Artists O, is based on an open call for artworks, which was jury-selected anonymously in a two-phase process. The selection of works was carried out by the exhibition's curators: Margarita Rosselló Ramón, curator of education, textile artist, and Master of Arts from the Craft Museum of Finland, and Priska Falin, researcher, ceramic artist, and Doctor of Arts from Aalto University. A total of 33 artists submitted 43 works for consideration. Based on material samples from the second phase, 17 artists and 21 works were selected for the exhibition.

The selection criteria emphasized not only the artistic and conceptual quality of the works but also their materiality and how they could be experienced through touch or other senses. The chosen works feature materials such as glass, wood, textiles, ceramics, and various recycled materials.
