Dialogue – Woven and Embroidered Bridge 16.12.2023-3.3.2024

The Finnish-Japanese exhibition is based on a textile-oriented work exchange, where the theme has been travelling in its various meanings. Saori weaving and Sashiko embroidery are adding their own spice to the works.

The Japanese aesthetic has inspired Finns since the artists of the Golden Age. Similarly, the Japanese have been particularly interested in Finnish design for decades. The themes that unite both cultures are nature, quiet work, and immersion in one's own inner world.

On The Edge – Master Bladesmiths 7.1.–12.3.2023

The Finnish knife is the source of legends, and each knife has the looks of its maker and customer. On The Edge exhibition presents knives made by four master bladesmiths.

The notion of a bladesmith is usually associated with an forge and the clangour of hammer, but the work is also strongly involves knowledge of materials and planning. Even a visually pleasing blade or knife must be usable. The simpler the knife, the more accurate the proportions and the more the materials must harmonize with each other.

Sense Space

Antaudu aisteille!

Surrender to the senses!

At their best, museum objects are interfaces to the past. Different senses bring us closer to the people of the past. Our own culture determines what is beautiful and ugly, what smells good and what smells bad.

THE PLACE – Ceramic Studio Pot Viapori 10.9.–4.12.2022

Finnish word PAIKKA can be translated as a place or a patch. It can mean exact coordinates, a concrete place where you can make ceramics, a patch that corrects something that is broken and in a wider sense even as a state of mind.

Ceramic studio Pot Viapori at Suomenlinna is a special place. It has left its mark on those who work or have worked there and those who just visit the place.

Milliners – Hats, Accessories and Trade secrets 12.3.–15.5.2022
