Dialogue – Woven and Embroidered Bridge 16.12.2023-3.3.2024

The Finnish-Japanese exhibition is based on a textile-oriented work exchange, where the theme has been travelling in its various meanings. Saori weaving and Sashiko embroidery are adding their own spice to the works.

The Japanese aesthetic has inspired Finns since the artists of the Golden Age. Similarly, the Japanese have been particularly interested in Finnish design for decades. The themes that unite both cultures are nature, quiet work, and immersion in one's own inner world.

Embroidered Stances 13.1.–7.4.2024

14 people from artist, designer, and craftsman backgrounds, as well as artist-activists and artist-researchers from different parts of the world crossed their paths in Rovaniemi. They express personal and political content through the means of embroidery and revive the tradition of quilt embroidery in a contemporary context. The importance of examining one’s own cultural background and the continuous change and interaction of cultures is a visible theme.

Merja Keskinen - Imagined Fabrics 9.9.-3.12.2023

The optical blending of colours is evident in the textile artworks of artist professor Merja Keskinen, as thousands of shades of colours play together. With subtle changes in thread colours, the artworks come to life with an abundance of tones and surface rhythm.

The title of the exhibition, "Imagined Fabrics," refers to the textile artist's working process. Keskinen is fascinated by unpredictability. Combining different-coloured threads according to a chosen system brings forth captivating colour combinations that are challenging to name or envision in advance.

The new name of Yaroslavl Square will be Viitaniemi Square

The name of Yaroslavl Square (Jaroslavlin aukio) in Viitaniemi, Jyväskylä, will change to Viitaniemi Square (Viitaniemenaukio). The reason for the name change is that the city of Jyväskylä suspended cooperation with its twin city Yaroslavl in the spring of 2022.

Viitaniemi Square is a suitable new name for the square because it is centrally located in Viitaniemi.
