Sense Space

Antaudu aisteille!

Surrender to the senses!

At their best, museum objects are interfaces to the past. Different senses bring us closer to the people of the past. Our own culture determines what is beautiful and ugly, what smells good and what smells bad.

Burn only dry and clean wood

Fireplaces bring warmth to the home. When the wood is burnt correctly, emissions incurred by burning are reduced.

The cold season tempts you to light a fire in the hearth and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere created by the warmth of the wood stove.

Artistic crafts collection

The artistic works collection at the Crafts Museum of Finland is made up of objects, archives of sketches, as well as materials related to the process of creating these artworks. There are many facets to the concept of artistic crafts. The artwork collection at the Craft Museum of Finland recognizes its scope intersects with and partially overlaps that of other museums dedicated to art and design, such as the Design Museum in Helsinki. Therefore, even when dealing with artworks, the focus of this museum is on recording and highlighting the process of crafting as much as the final product.

Crafts businesses and organizations collection

The crafts businesses and organizations collection is a history of both Finland’s major artisan companies and organizations as well as more minor actors. The records from machine-assisted handicrafts industry focus on product design, while those from larger companies emphasize small-scale series production. Records of the history and activities of associations join those documenting the experiences of small businesses in the creative field as well as those of the evolution of education in crafts.
