Guide for the exhibition builder

The aim of the exhibitions of the Craft Museum of Finland is to create experiences and to convey and increase knowledge of phenomena from different perspectives of craftsmanship. The museum's exhibitions present crafts as a profession, art and hobby.

In addition to its own collections, the museum presents the collections of other museums, institutions and individuals. The museum exhibits traditional crafts and contemporary products, old and new. In addition to national exhibitions, the museum regularly hosts international exhibitions.

Vuosittain museo esittelee omissa näyttelytiloissaan perusnäyttelyiden lisäksi parikymmentä erikoisnäyttelyä. Näyttelyiden määrä ja vaihtotahti elää näyttelyohjelman mukaan.  

Each year, the museum presents twenty temporary exhibitions in its own exhibition space, in addition to the main exhibitions. The number of exhibitions and the rate of change depends on the exhibition programme.

• Lobby Gallery 1-4 exhibitions per year
• Window Gallery 5 exhibitions per year
• Alley Gallery 2-3 exhibitions per year
• Showcase Window 7-8 exhibitions per year

The exhibition programme of the Craft Museum of Finland is decided by the museum director on the basis of the proposals of the exhibition team. The team meets 1-2 times a year to discuss the exhibition proposals received and to consider the guidelines for the coming years.

Näyttelyiden eripituisista tuotantoajoista johtuen näyttelyohjelma päätetään vaihtuvien näyttelyiden osalta 2-3 vuotta ja Aulagallerian 1-2 vuotta etukäteen. Ikkunagallerian, Kujan ja Näytönpaikan näyttelyt päätetään n. 1 vuosi etukäteen. 

Due to the different production periods of the exhibitions, the exhibition programme is decided 2-3 years in advance for temporary exhibitions and 1-2 years in advance for the Lobby Gallery. The exhibitions in the Window Gallery, the Alley Gallery and the Showcase Window are decided approximately one year in advance.
